Remember that children under the age of 12 are required to wear a life jacket while on a boat.
Operator’s age for personal watercraft is a minimum age of 14 years old.
Boat Inspections are voluntary at the ramps, but are non voluntary while on the water.

Coming in 2010

Something new for 2010 will be classes sponsored by LCSO for the Boating Safety Education course, this class will be needed to operate a boat on the waters in the State of Washington. (Click here for information about Boating Safety Education.)

Mandatory Boater Education

In 2005, a law was passed requiring boat operators to take a boater safety education course in order to operate a boat in Washington state. The law applies to operators of motorboats with 15 horsepower or greater.

Boaters can take an education course in a classroom, online or at home. Once the course is completed and test passed, boaters need to send a completed application for their card.

If boaters already have taken an approved boating class, they only need to send in their application with supporting documents to get a Boater Education Card.
